Mulligan Promoted to CBA Varsity Soccer Coach
Longtime head coach Dan Keane paid tribute to Mulligan as the new head coach saying
“He’s excellent. I coached him in the early ’80s. He’s highly skilled and committed to soccer and waited his turn for a long time,” Keane said. “He’s a soccer man, certainly dedicated and his is a soccer family. The program is in good hands. I have the highest regards that this program will continue along fine, no doubt about it. I’m excited for them.”
"I am thrilled that Tom will be leading CBA soccer into the future," said Director of Athletics Vito Chiaravalloti II. "The commitment Tom shows toward developing his players both on and off the field will have a resounding impact on their lives well beyond the game itself. This is truly an exciting day for the entire CBA soccer community - players, parents, and alumni."
Mulligan has spent the past 20 years developing athletes at the sub-varsity level, helping support the efforts that have made CBA Soccer a top state competitor every year. Now in his 25th year teaching science at CBA, Mulligan has been helping develop students for generations.
Mulligan's soccer roots run deep. As a 1983 graduate of the Academy, Mulligan played under now-former head coach Dan Keane, first as a junior and then as a captain his senior year. After graduating, he went on to excel at the collegiate level, being named captain, MVP, and an all-conference selection while at Drew University from 1984-87.
"Having worked with coach Keane for over 20 years has provided me with insights into one of the state's perennial soccer programs," Mulligan said.
As CBA gears up for a new chapter in its storied soccer program, Mulligan is ready to continue developing athletes both on the pitch and in the classroom.
Coach Mulligan has led the Colts to the 2016 Shore Conference Title; 2016 and 2018 Non-Public A State Title, a 2016 #1 Ranking in New Jersey and 2018 #3 NJ ranking. His current 4 year varsity record stands at 75-12-4.
